There are 147 municipal parks in Ann Arbor, ranging from neighborhood vest-pocket parks to large recreation areas, with several large city parks and a university park bordering sections of the Huron River. The largest are Argo Park, Riverside Park, County Farm Park, and Gallup Park.

The University of Michigan Nichols Arboretum allows hikers an opportunity to explore this 123-acre natural area which serves as an educational and research facility for the University of Michigan and Ann Arbor schools. Numerous trails allow visitors to investigate the plant collections.
